Grand Banks Yachts has a storied history that began in 1956 when it was founded by Robert Newton and his sons in Hong Kong. Initially operating under the name American Marine, they built heavy sailboats and large motor yachts. The company gained significant recognition in the early 1960s with the launch of the “Chantyman,” a 34-foot diesel-powered boat that introduced the concept of a production-style trawler.
In 1965, Grand Banks introduced the GB36, which became one of the most successful yacht designs ever. This model redefined coastal cruising and led to the creation of the Heritage Series, which includes iconic models like the Grand Banks 32 Sedan, 36 Classic, and 42 Classic. The company moved its production from Hong Kong to Singapore in 1968 and later to Malaysia in 1995.
Grand Banks continued to innovate with the introduction of the Aleutian Series in the early 2000s, featuring larger yachts with raised pilothouses2. In 2014, Grand Banks acquired Palm Beach Motor Yachts, leading to a reinvention of their designs under the leadership of Mark Richards.
Today, Grand Banks Yachts is known for its luxurious, fuel-efficient cruisers that blend classic style with modern technology. Their models range from the Heritage Series to the newer Eastbay and Aleutian Series, catering to a variety of boating preferences.
Their classic trawlers are particularly iconic, known for their comfortable interiors, spacious decks, and reliable performance in various conditions.
